The former owner Edward L Trenholm owned a fleet of ships that supplied the South with arms during the American Civil war. The character Rhett Butler from "Gone With The Wind" is based on Trenholm.
As a successful blockade runner, the stories are legend. If only the walls (and windows) could talk.
